I live in a hot climate within the huricane zone and this year I intend to head to cooler ground for the summer. I am considering emptying the pool and storing the water in a clean cistern. The pool drains would be left open to allow any rainwater to evacuate. My thoughts were that this would be better for the water and cerrtainly easier for cleanup when I return. However some have mentioned it may not be the best for the pool surface. I'm not sure what the surface is, but the pool is 18 years old and it has a "diamond brite" appearance finish however the thickness of the stone surface is only about a 1/8" and under that is a white plaster (?) like looking substance. There's not a lot available for pool maintenance companies. I am a new pool owner and this has been a true learning experience, however I am learning and the water is in great condition. I'd appreciate any assistance.
