Nasty like green water, swampy or just dirt in the bottom of clear water?

Test your water.
Scoop out the leaves and twigs and such with a leaf net.
Add chlorine and other chems to adjust your test readings.
Run your pump 7/24 for several days.
Vacuum and Backwash daily until you get it cleared up and have your water back in balance.

Remember that no matter how bad it looks, the water itself is fine...you cant turn H2O into something else! It's all the junk IN the water you need to get out!

Test, Shock, Filter, Vacuum, Backwash, Repeat.

If in doubt take a water sample to your local pool store and they can help as well. And bugs is right...run your filter 24/7 until things clear up.
