NO Chlorine reading

I have tried shocking and shocking and still no chorine reading. Please help. I have a 27' round pool above ground.

So what is your other test readings? What's your water look and smell like? See any algae?

What have you been using for shock (dichlor, trichlor, cal hypo or liquid chlorine) and how much are you putting in at one time? You probably aren't shocing high enough or long enough.

I'd guess your pool volume is 17,000 to 20,000 gallons depending on the depth. Could be more, could be less.

The water look fine and smells fine no chlorine smell at all. I use Aqua chem Shock with built in clarifier. Hardness is 250 total chlorine 0 ph 6.8
alkalinity 40 stablizer 50. I see a little algea in small spots maybe 4 or 5. The water is clear. I normally don't handle the pool. My husband does but he is now been activate with the Army Reserves and is away.

You need to get your pH up above 7.0 else you could damage the vinyl, you also need to get your alk up to buffer your pH. Use 14 lbs of baking soda (Arm & Hammer yellow box)

You need to get your chlorine up and keep it high for 2 or 3 days.
Pour 6 gallons of regular Chlorox bleach or 2.5 or 3 gallons of 12.5% pool store chlorine.

Run your pump 24/7 until you get back in balance. Retest your water in 24 hours. It may get a little cloudy but you should see a chlorine reading.
If your pH is now over the top of the range, add enough acid to lower your pH to 7.2 and continue running your pump.

Keep that chlorine up, you may have to add more bleach to do so. Once your chlorine stays up overnight. You can let it come down to 3 to 5 ppm.

Brush, vacuum and backwash daily during this process.

Pouring reg Clorox bleach want harm my liner? The chlorine that you buy from the pool store is in liquid form also just stronger? thanks for your help this is all just new to me.

Chlorox is 6% sodium hypochlorite
Pool store liquid chlorine is usually 10% or 12.5% sodium hypochlorite.

Same thing, different strength.

Check your water test results. Your TDS could be incredibly high (2500+), which could be contributing to your water not holding chlorine. If it's over saturated, then you need to drain.
