need help with pool slide for kids

We set up a fiberglass slide from our swingset on our deck to go into the pool. The fiberglass, however, is not a smooth surface fit for partially-exposed skin to go down (partly because it is aged and partly b/c it was not designed for this use, I think). Is there anything I can put on it or paint it with to make it work? Thanks.

I tried a car wax, but it made virtually no difference.

You need water. Rig up a hose to run water down the slide. This is what all "real" pool slides do.
