Hi. New pool owner (just moved into a home with a pool approx. one month ago) and we are learning as we go. So far - pool ownership has been great and the previous owners left us in great shape, we went to "pool school", etc.
Now, we turned the heater on for the first time and the chlorine levels seem to have dipped (according to test strips and the chlorinator seems to not be using the same amount).
I don't know my plumbing on a pool. Hoping someone can help me if I sent a picture? Not sure if I can attach a picture on here?
Are the valves turned correctly so the water goes into the heater?
I want to catch the problem before the water turns green!
Help!!!
Chlorine dipped when turned heater on....

You say you have a chlorinator is it a salt water chlorine generator or one with pucks?
Dip strips are unreliable. You really need to get yourself a decent FAS/DPD test kit (Taylor K2006c or TF Testkits TF100 in the states) to get accurate results as maintaining an appropiate shock level means testing quite often during the day
Let's have your numbers

CYA is one of the most important ones when using stabilised chlorine

Re: Chlorine dipped when turned heater on....
Thanks for the input, Denniswiseman. I am still having the trouble. Still no chlorine (pool company tested my water). Apparently I don't have the authority to attach an image to my posts so I can't send you a picture of my pool set up. I really think one of the valves is set wrong and the chlorinator is being bypassed somehow.

I don't know why you can't add images as it's a simple process when typing a post
You say the pool company tested your water, why haven't you posted the results here?
Also you didn't answer the question of what type of chlorinator you have
If your chlorinator isn't working get some liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach) to get some chlorine in your pool
