Hi Guys

I found a company that is manufacturing Wood Stove Pool Heaters in Canada. The company is WSP and the website is woodstovepools.com

I was speaking with them and I am sold. These guys have it figured out!
Also very easy to deal with!

don't use copper lines..stick with your first idea..316 stainless steel is best for corrosion protection due to pool chemistry

From everything I have read, one needs to be very careful when using copper tubing with chlorinated water. The chemical reaction between the two can actually become toxic water. If I am wrong, I'd love to hear some replies.

Hi, I'm a representative for ExtendaSwim, we've been building wood fired pool heaters since 1997, and have a very refined design.

I am a boiler technician. I spent 2 years developing such an idea. The first year, it worked, but had a couple design issues. The second year however, much better. I live in the NE. I opened my pool may 1. It was 54 *F. In 2 days-it was 85* F. Email me.

I live in Arkansas, I'm also working on a plan to build a wood burning pool heater and I need all the help I can summon, Any help you could turn loose would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I know this post is old but I'd still like to inquire about obtaining the information for building this. Thank you!

Into season three, changed the design of my heater. Got 10 old rads connected them inline under the swimming pool. they are on 50mm insulation and surrounded by 100mm insulation. Essentially I have put a central heating system under the pool. Works a blinder. Fill the burner at night heats pool nicely and during th day the solar cover and 100 mm insulation round the pool keeps it all warm. Very controllable now as have added a heat sink should it get to warm the fire is dampened and cold water is introduced to the system. Still trial and error but works well. Additionally now have 1km of garden hose working of a central heating pump for day use, astonishingly good for a quick blast of heating, this being connected to a 50 gallon drum and run on a mixer tap to provide a shower at the end of the bathing day.

I have to admit that I haven’t built my own wood fired pool heater. I bought mine from ExtendaSwim. But I can control heat source by controlling the airflow in the burning chamber. I can open and close the air valve in the bottom of the heater and thereby control how fast the wood is burning. If I want to put out the fire I just close the valves all together.

The smoke problem is a combination of two things: How dry the wood is and the airflow in the burning chamber. If it was a homemade wood fired pool heater there might be a problem with the airflow. If there not enough air in the chamber the burning is incomplete and will generate a lot of smoke. The same thing will happen if the wood isn’t dry enough.
I have made a blog about my experience with my wood fired pool heater at bestwoodpoolheaters.com

Wood Stove Pool Heaters

Using charcoal on the top with wood on the bottom.

Convert a fire pit or old grill into a wood burning pool heater (water heater).

I bought a 16' x 4' pool, but found that a gas or electric heater would cost more than the price of the pool itself. I also had a lot of limbs and split wood from a fallen tree in my yard. This made for a very easy and effective combination. Now, when I burn wood in my fire pit, I also heat my pool.
