Propane or Electric?

Postby Larch » Fri 22 May, 2009 14:26

Hi,
I live in New England and just bought an 18x33 above ground oval. The wife wants it heated. We're considering the pros and cons of propane vs. electric. Everything I've read so far indicates electric is cheaper to run on a month to month basis but it is double the initial cost to purchase and install. I've figured (roughly calculated) it will take about 16 months (4 pool seasons in New England) for the electric to pay off.

I was wondering if there is anyone else out there in New England who heats a similar sized pool with propane that can give a ballpark on cost for propane. Pool is in sun from 10am to 4pm. We use a solar cover at night. We intend to keep the pool at about 83 degrees. Propane in our area is currently $2 gallon.

Thanks
