Pool Timer and Heat Pump?

Postby Glebe » Fri 12 Jun, 2009 09:36

We have purchased a heat pump for our pool. I have read on a hydro site that a pump timer and heat pump should not be used together. Comments?

Pool Timer and Heat Pump?

Personally I think pumps should be left to their own anyway. Use a flow switch to PROVE flow to a piece or pieces of equipment before it operates. Just because you apply power to a pump doesn't mean it is going to pump water.

I would refer to the equipment manufacturer in any event. Gas heaters for example should go through a cool down before the water flow stops. Heat Pumps are generally more controlled and will go through a complete start up sequence each time but again, abruptly shutting off equipment is often where the concern will be.
