How to operate filter and pump

just bought house with pool and no instructions how to use it , its above ground 9000 gallon pool, 3/4 of it was empty with algea, filled it up and put one pound shock, water is milky colored now
I need step by step instruction on how to run filter and motor, they are both hooked up properly just don't know what setting on filter I need to use , paid a pool guy to show me, he was cluecless and senile, he was able to hook up all parts . all I need is what setting to use to start running filter , hayward e200 sand filter. I think basic operation is same on all these, tried to find it on line was not successfull, if some one could explain pressure also would be great .thanks

You have a sand filter, in the summer, you are going to need to run the filter for a duration of a minimum of 6 hours during the hottest part of the day. Wintertime, you can trim down the hours of filtration to 4 hours.

* Ensure you have a working pressure gauge, if not, it will need to be replaced.

- Filtering
Make sure the lever is set to "Filter" when the pool is filtering

- Backwash/Cleaning the Filter
After you have backwashed the filter, you want to make note of the pressure gauge, because when that goes 5-10 lbs OVER that reading, it will be time to clean the filter again.

Step1) Switch pump OFF
2) move the lever to "BACKWASH"
3) make sure the water discharge hose is placed away from from the filtration equipment. If you do no know what or where that is, you'll find out on step 4.
4) Switch pump ON
5) Water will discharge. If you have the Hayward Vari-Flo valve, there will be a small view glass on the side that will let you see the color of the water. At first, the dirty water is light brown colored, when it starts to get clear, SWITCH PUMP OFF.
6) Turn the lever to "RINSE"
7) Switch pump ON
Again, you want to check the view glass to see that the water goes from light brown to clear again. Or just run it for about 1 minute, whichever happens first.
9) Switch pump OFF
10) Turn lever to "FILTER"
11) Switch pump ON
Your filter cleaning is now complete.

Sand filters and the sand media are good for about 10 years. Once in a while in between that time you will need to run a sand filter cleaning treatment, in which the complete instructions will be on the bottle.

I have noticed my pool loses water fairly quickly, after patching up every crack I could spot, I finally saw that when my pump is set to filter, it pushes water out of the overflow (where the backwash usually comes out). What could be the problem

You may have a defective seal on the backwash valve

Backwash is good idea to operate filter and pump. It turn the drift of water in the filter pail, so that the water is now coming out all of the beguile particles in the sand and making it again neat

Hi I have had a pool guy do my pool for years so i never paid attention to any of that. Well I should have paid close attention. Could someone explain the workings of the system because there is a lever here and a knob there. Cant get any help off of the internet. I did figure out that if you turn the skimmer valve almost shut it will vacuum the pool. I know how to backwash put DE and thats about it. I have no idea how or what to do to the spa. Help!!
