Prevent air lock when cleaning baskets?

Postby Just » Sun 16 Jul, 2006 00:00

I'm very new to this pool maintenance business, and would appreciate any help. When I take out the basket next to the filter to clean it, I find that the filter and kreepy stop working after I put it back. I'm told that this is caused by an "air lock". The water jets stop working and the kreepy will not move.

How do I fix this once this has occurred? Presumably there is air somehow trapped in a line, but how I do get rid of it? And how do I prevent this from happening in the first place the next time I clean the filter's basket?

Thanks
Just

I shut the valve located right next to that basket to hold water in the lines to the main drain and the skimmers while cleaning the basket. Then after replacing the basket and retightening the lid, open the valve back up.

To fix the problem once it's happened, stick a water hose in there, filling the lines to the drain and skimmers and forcing the air out.
