Just filled new pool

Postby hitlayers » Wed 29 Apr, 2020 14:29

Hey guys, before I go to the pool store and get ripped off, just wanted to know what exactly to buy, just filled up an above ground 10K gallon pool, what's next?

You really need to get yourself a decent FAS/DPD test kit (Taylor K2006c or TF Testkits TF100 in the states) to get accurate results
Use these common products to balance your pool
Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach)
Muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) to lower pH and TA
Bicarbonate of soda to raise TA
Aeration will raise pH only
Soda ash will raise pH and TA
To get some Cyanuric acid (CYA) in the pool you can used stabilised chlorine tabs or granules (Trichlor Dichlor) to get to about 40PPM before going over to Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach)

Thanks Dennis, appreciate the response, is there a certain amount needed of each for the size of the pool?

Sorry, also, what should I be ordering ahead of time, chemical wise?

You need to test the water to determine what you need
If you get stabilised chlorine you will be putting in CYA as well but once you get to about 40-50 stop and use plain bleach
No sense in putting anything else in before testing
