How to start on the right foot?

Postby borisdds » Sun 16 May, 2021 11:46

Hello there.
I am new to pool and we are building a new in-ground salt water pool and spa. About 25k gallons.

I'm trying to educate myself so I can take care of my pool correctly from the start.
We are in Central California, so the summers are hot, and winters are mild.
I don't know anything about pools and was hoping that you have a guide on what to do and how to prepare myself for the pool experience.

What kind of test kits to get, what kind of brush, pole and net you recommend, what kind of and what chemicals to use, what kinds of problems to anticipate, what to avoid, and how to deal with algae etc. In all any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Boris

Pool School
You really need to get yourself a decent FAS/DPD test kit (Taylor K2006c or TF Testkits TF100 in the states) to get accurate results as maintaining an appropiate shock level means testing quite often during the day
Use these common products to balance your pool
Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach) untill you get the SWCG dialed in
Muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) to lower pH and TA
Bicarbonate of soda to raise TA
Aeration will raise pH only
Soda ash will raise pH and TA
Regarding the SWCG get one that is rated twice what you need because they are rated for 24/7
Get a manual vacuum as the robots are random
Brush, pole and nets are generic and much the same

I have a question.
As I mentioned before, we just finished our new in-ground pool. Pentair equipment, CCP420 cartridge filter, intelliflo vsf pump.

We started the landscaping around it. Well some excavation dirt got inside the pool, I been brushing it for the last 2 days, pumps are running continuously 2 days, and what I get is the dirt circulates out the eyeballs.
I checked that new filter has cartridges and there is not much dirt inside.
Any suggestions appreciated.

That looks strange as there is no dirt in front of the eyeballs
When you vacuum does the return water look cloudy and then settles out
If so there is a fault with the filter
