Filter prining

Postby Tnooch » Thu 19 May, 2022 21:22

When I go to prime my filter basket the water does not stay in the basket. It drains through the hose the draws the water from pool to filter. However, if I put a plug in the skimmer hole and then prime, the water stays and I have to have someone turn the filter power in at the same time I pull the plug and then the filter will suck and run properly. What is causing thst???

Obviously the pool is lower than the pump basket and water seeks it's own level
If you plug the skimmer, fill and fit the pump basket lid on, then you should be able to unplug the skimmer and hold the water in
Failing that a non return valve on the suction side of the pump will hold prime

I second Dennis, fit a non return valve
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.
