my pool has been cloudy for a month

my pool guy is telling me that the phosphates in my pool are to high

Phosphates are the "problem de jour", and rarely the reason for as cloudy pool.

Using your test kit, please post a full set of numbers so we can see where you are at. If you don't have one, dump the pool boy and with the money you will save you can buy a good kit and still have a bunch left over. ;)

when you have cloudy water the first thing you do is check chemical readings to make sure all chemicals are correct or take water sample to pool store so they can check it for free.

Then start running filter 8hrs a day during the summer to make sure that all the water is being turned over/cleaned.

Also have you cleaned the filter? Some filters need to be cleaned more often than others do to age, size, type.

Phosphate problems do not normally cause cloudyness, it causes algae. Again take a big water sample to pool store and they will do that test also.
