I cannot disconnect the hose from the hose bib for some reason- the plastic covers the metal part of the hose... so how do I disconnect it could anyone tell me?

I didn't quite understand the problem. Could the connector be threaded?

it's threaded, but there is a plastic cylinder which comes out over the threads of the hose, so all that shows is the hose.

You have to get the plastic cylinder out of the vacuum port.
