Hayward Cl200 check valve

I have the Hayward CL200 do I need to use a check valve if there is no heater, Can the chlorine damage the pump or the control valve, also on the CL200 where the water goes through looks narrow can that reduce pressure coming out of the return or can the reduced size of the Hayward CL200 make the system to run under higher pressure.

Should always use a check valve and yes it can effect the motor and pump as the chlorine will eat at the gaskets and seals and parts to shorten the life span of the equipment. If it does cause more pressure it isn't anything to worry about. I recommend the 200 vs the 220 anyday.
