I need all the help I can get

Postby Irene P Nelson » Tue 01 Jan, 2008 02:25

Hi All,
We have an Intex 12' x 36" above ground pool
1,485 gallon capacity
The filter is a Krystal Clear model 604 filter pump.
We have a young baby in the house and it has been suggested that we use salt instead of chlorine.
If this is correct, if this pump ok or do we need a special pump and how much salt would we have to use?
Can someone please help as I an a total pool novice.
Thanks

Well I hope I can assist. I do not have an above ground but I do use salt.

The filter doesn not matter it just filters the water of impuraties.

To use salt you will need to do more than just put it in the water. You will need to purchase a salt generator that hooks into your piping of your system. The generator takes the salt that you put in your water and generates chlorine.

i would not even waste the money to put in a salt system. it is more complex than it sounds. there is alot to it. if the child is not allergic to chlorine. then i would not change it over. it might run up to almost $1,500.00 to do so. and you might need to do a whole bunch of non sense plumbing just to make it compatible. I am a fan of salt systems but they are not all what people say they are they can really give you a headache if it is not kept up properly.
