Alkelinity is high

Postby dbene7195 » Fri 30 May, 2008 08:50

Good Morning,
I am a new pool owner. Our pool is an above ground 21x43. I have work to get the levels correct and have put a lot of chemicals in. I have the levels all within the correct range, but cannot get the alk below 220. The nwater is crystal clear and is a little high on the chlorine, but over all everything looks good. What can I do to lower the total alk?

To make the TA drop faster, you need to aerate the water at a low pH. Follow the procedure outlined in this post. It will take quite a lot of acid for the process, but it would take that amount of acid no matter what you do -- the aeration at low pH just speeds up the process rather than you adding acid over weeks or months to much more slowly accomplish the same affect (assuming the fill water isn't high in TA).
