Adding DE

Postby tpm » Sun 24 Aug, 2008 08:34

Hello
I have a Hayward 6020 I believe that calls for 7.5 lbs of DE. Someone told me after the initial adding to only add 80% which is 6 lbs. Is this correct?? Also I use a DE scoop which is 2 cups to equal a pound. So I add 12 scoops. Is this right thus far?
Thanks for the help :)

It's true that you only add 80% with the next addition. The reason is, backwashing the DE filter never really cleans all the DE out.

I thought the pre-measured DE scoops come in 1 lb scoops with a line half way up for a half pound. I could be wrong so someone can come along and refresh my memory... :P

pretty sure it is a half pound, it looks about the same size a a small coffee can which you need 2 to equal a pound of DE.

Thanks for the reply! :)
