New & Clueless

Postby Cement Pond » Mon 06 Jul, 2009 07:49

We just moved into a new house.
The house was a short sale that had been on the market / vacant for over 500 days.
Everything was neglected, house, yard, & pool.
A neighbor told use the pool had not been opened since 2004.
When I pulled the cover off it basically looked like swamp water.

I have turned the water from green to a cloudy blue.
I have shocked, with both Clorox & pool store shock, and all the levels are in range except for the chlorine level is off the charts high.

My question is, what now to end the “cloudiness”?

Also, I am worried about the vacuum situation.
After a few minutes of vacuuming, the dirty, algae water starts coming out of the return???/??

Any ideas or suggestions?

This is my first post, and my first pool, so I may be a little slow with the terms & stuff.
As soon as I find my camera, I will post some pics.

THANKS!

Wow~No response?

I figured it out, the filter had holes in it, so it was blowing the DE Media back into the pool.
I had to sew the holes together and it is holding for now.
New filter bags cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Is this a good site to get information? Is there a better one?
Is the reason I got no response because I'm a newbie? :wtf:

Just got your post and don't understand why you have not received any answers.

First thing is to drain and refill with fresh water.
Test the fill water for alkalinity, pH, and hardness. This will give you a good indicator of where to go.

Keep your levels:

Chlorine 1.5-3.5
pH 7.6-7.8, not 7.2. You'll use too much acid
Alkalinity 80-100
Calcium Hardness 150-250
