Agreed with mas985 here.
40 lbs of salt in a 5000 gal pool is not a big deal at all.
My 20,000 gallon pool took 400lbs of salt to work the generator.
You should be in the 1500ppm range, witch is far less salty than, human tears (apx. 9000 ppm), ocean (35,000 ppm)
