Fibreglass Kidney shaped pool

Postby pb11186 » Sat 15 Jun, 2019 12:30

Hey everyone,

New to the forum amd hoping to get some advice.

I have an opportunity to get(for a great deal) a used fibreglass kidney shaped pool. Probably around 20 years old and in great shape. The issue is i will be responsible for removal, moving and transport(probably a 3km distance)

It is not a huge pool, looks like one of those old school kidney shaped pools with a deep end.

Just curious is anyone has a method or has done this before without having to hire a big crane. Anyone know the rough weight of these things?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul
You will need to get something that is capable of lifting it out of the ground and lifting it onto a lorry (Hiab) being careful not to crush it in by bracing it across the lifting points that would be there when it was first installed
Weight depends on the size but not excessive

Thanks Dennis. Would the original lifting points be easy to find? Or are they usuly removed? Im going to look at the pool next week. The biggest issue i think will be lifting it. It is in a tight spot and accessed tbrough a car port. Not sure if a hiab would get in there. I was thinking man power to lift it in small increments and bracing it then sliding it to a point to be loaded on a float. Ive attached a pic of the pool. Looks like it has been somewhat lifted already.

Take a look at Google images, that will give you some ideas of the cradle arrangements used.

Obviously a site investigation would verify your options and wether it's possible to actually get it out
It may have been craned in
Mine had lifting point bonded in on either side under the top lip
A small backhoe could be used to lift it and place scaffold tubes under
Don't try to lift it with any water inside as the extra weight would be 8.34 lbs for a US gallon
