how do i prevent another whole in my AGP floor liner.?

I would like to know what I can install under my pool liner and on top of my sand, which will greatly decrease the chances of a pin whole in the new liner, from burrowing out a larger hole in my sand floor? I have already dealt with this once and did not add a floor liner thinking the problem would not happen again, I was wrong. its happened again.

I do not want to buy any of the floor liners or pads that they are selling on the net. the price and they don't seem to be what I want.

I have heard of installing foam pads (they 8x4's) like you buy at lowes and or outdoor carpet. or just laying down thick sheets of plastic. I'm open to ideas.

my goal is a softer floor with a really reduced chance of a washout under my floor in the event of a pin whole developing.
