An empty pool with flaky paint - now what?

Postby Lockhouse » Sat 11 Apr, 2020 07:26

OK, I've emptied my pool.

It's inground, indoor, small (16'x10' ft) and concrete. It's also around 50 years old with no leaks as far as I can tell.

We had it repainted a few years ago, I believe with a chlorinated rubber resin paint that wasn't given long enough to cure. Consequently the paint bubbled after around three months and has been slowly flaking off ever since.

I've pressure washed the pool but it looks like it needs a sand to get rid of all the loose paint.

Please see the attached pics - these were taken after the pressure wash.

So what do I do now? Do I repaint, tile or do something else? Do I do it myself or get someone in? I am pretty clueless where to go from here so a push in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Paint doesn't last long
I would suggest you get a quote from a professional for Aquabright

Thanks for the reply. I'd been looking at in-pool lining but I'll take a look at Aquabright. In the meantime I've sanded the sides to remove all the loose particles and I'm going to refill it for now so at least we can get some use during the lockdown!
