Grinding Chlorinated Paint

Postby Remedy234 » Tue 15 Dec, 2020 09:59

Our concrete painted pool is going to get resurfaced, I’ll probably using a white tanking product but I need to remove the chlorinated paint. To save over £2k on having it shot blasted I’m going to grind the paint off myself. I’ve been using 40 grit flap discs but these soon get clogged with paint. Any ideas on what else I can use to remove the paint ?

It’s not a massive pool, only 10k gallons or so.

Because its chlorinated rubber paint it will as you say clog disks. I have only ever blasted it off, with sometimes a pressure washer fitted with the dand blast attachment.

The tanking solution? Is that meant for permanent immersion in chlorinated water?

Hi apparently it’s fine for that, I did question it.

"Swimming Pools prior to tiling or painting"
Ok, what finish are you going to apply?

It can also left as the final finish and I’ve just confirmed with them that it’s perfectly fine in chlorine

Ok, please let us know how you get on. Used to paint pools with epoxy pool paint but after 6 months to a year it cracks and flakes off so wouldn't recommend that. Newer solutions are vinyl lining, Eco finish, or polyeurea.
Always glad to hear of other options.

Use any pressure water tube to clean them. It will be more easy

Tried a 3000 psi washer but unfortunately that didn’t touch it
