I'm having a gunite pool built in the Indianapolis area. The shell was constructed in October and because it's taken so long to complete, there's about 1-2 feet of water in the deep end. The shell is also weeping in several places but I'm a little less concerned about those. Is it a problem having the water frozen in the pool all winter? I'm concerned it's going diminish the integrity of the pool in the long run.
We have an auto-cover for the pool but I could see it taking several weeks before the deck is completed.
Any suggestions?
Is it OK to have frozen water in gunite shell?
This will not hurt the pool integrity. However, has the pool been plastered yet? If it has fresh plaster then the pool should be filled so the plaster can cure. I would advise draining any water in the pool though so the gunite can properly cure as well. Hydrostatic plugs must be pulled if pool is empty.
