Stop using algaecide!!! That's what causes the foaming and it uses up your chlorine. Add more liquid chlorine immediately. Walmart bleach will do if it's local.

Sorry missed you are in the UK, whereabouts?
A good electronic tester will do everything you need and can often work out less than individual tests

No not really, they need almost constant re calibration. Bought one years back, still have it! No one wanted it.

Too soon for flocculation, must kill all the algae first,

If you can get HTH shock granules, they are unstabilised chlorine so won't add to stabiliser level and are very high in chlorine level.

No, non chlorine shock is just an oxidiser and not a sanitiser. Get a load of thin bleach from a supermarket.
10litres or so.
I am picking up 80 litres of chlorine for a customer tomorrow, if you were lucky enough to be on my route.........

Yes, that will be HTH's calcium hypochlorite but re badged to OPC labelling.

If you can get a decent tester and measure the levels Dennis described especially stabiliser levels. Don't take too much notice of the other information about chlorine levels and DO NOT MIX THIS WITH OTHER CHLORINE SOURCES!! EXPLOSIVE!!!
Shocking a pool is not the addition of a product labelled shock. It is the raising of the free chlorine level and holding it until the algae is dead, oxidised and the combined chlorine levels are 0.5ppm or less. That may take a few days and a fair bit of chlorine.
