High calcium level in pool

Postby terrypfeff » Wed 18 Jun, 2014 21:32

I have had a high calcium level(740ppm or higher) in my pool for over a month. I have a 30ft. above ground with 22,000 gallons of water. My PH and chlorine levels are normal. The chlorine I used was Calcium Chloride, which I have stopped using! , I have tried metal out numerous times and even took half the water out last week. taking the water out and replacing it only brought it down 100ppm to 640ppm. When I backwash the sand filter(1.5hp pump)it looks like milk coming out and the grass is stained white. The calcium is also killing my grass. If I shut off the pump overnight and let the pool settle can I then vacuum the calcium out if I vacuum to waste?

Yes, whatever has settled to the bottom can be vacuumed to waste.

If you vacuum too fast you risk stirring up clouds of "dust" so be careful.
