It finally works, pool is cloudly no more!!

My water is crystal clear!!! I would like to thank everyone that contributes on this and other boards. Especially Chem Geek and Watermom!!!
6500g ABV Sand Filter

Opened pool several weeks ago and it was filled with the green meanies. This is my 3rd season w/ a pool. I had Baquajunk in there the first year, switched to the BBB method middle of last year. Shame on me, I didn't close pool at all. Anyway, I poured a few gallons of bleach in there and in a few days the green stuff was gone. However, it was cloudy, I couldn't see the bottom. The only test kit I had was the cheap ones from wally world. After scouring the net for anything that would help, I came up with the common answers.
1. Get a real test kit. (I now have the Taylor FAS-DPD)
2. Shock the pool based on your CYA level (Mine is 30-50 so I should shock to levels of at least 15ppm) until symptoms better.
3. Filter, filter, filter
4. Vacuum to waste
5. Get a skimmer sock.

So on with the problems. Before getting the taylor test kit I would use the dilution method (1part pool water : X parts distilled multiplied by total). This is highly inaccurate and I was continously frustrated by not really knowing how high my FC level really was. I did this for THREE weeks!! I ordered online and had kit shipped to me. I let my levels drop until the kit arrived. When the kit came in I immediatly tested all levels and then followed steps 1-5 I listed above. It took 9 days and 28.25 galloons of 6% bleach but it is crystal clear now.
