Garden flooded - pool water brown, floc'ing?

Postby freebo » Fri 14 Feb, 2020 20:08

Hi,
We have an inground pool about 8mx4m (26x13 feet). It is a saltwater pool with a chlorinator and a sand filter.

Last week we had very heavy rain and the yard flooded, soil seems to have gotten into the pool and the water is brown, the bottom can only just be seen.

I called our pool service company but they're backed up with lots of people with the same problem.

Having done some research I thought I'd try flocking. I tested the ph which was 7.2 then added the recommended amount of https://www.bunnings.com.au/hy-clor-1l-super-floc_p3090265 then I ran the pump on recirculate for 2 hours.

24 hours later, there's no difference.

Currently the chlorinator is disconnected/bypassed.

1 - I've added some more floc and run the pump another 4 hours then let it sit a further 24, will vac-to-waste if this causes the pollution to sink.

2 - If it doesn't should I try filtering?

3 - Should I re-connect the clorinator?

Thanks for any replies - I'm new at this!

The best thing is to wait and let it settle then vacuum to waste
I wouldn't filter especially with floc in the pool
I would maintain an appropiate level of chlorine to prevent an algae bloom. You can do this with plain bleach, because to get the SWCG working you will have to recirculate the water which will stir it up

Thanks, will do - its not showing any signs of settling after 24 hours, what sort of timeframe should I expect?

I would give it a week and see if there is any improvement
If any or none vacuum the floc and sediment to waste
Whatever you do don't filter the floc
Back wash your filter, add DE (Diatomaceous Earth) to raise the pressure 2 PSI make a note of your pressure and filter 24/7
When the pressure rises 25% back wash your filter, add more DE and repeat
Take regular photos at the same time to check for improvement
