Adding pH Up clouded up my pool

Postby rocknrollforyoursoul » Mon 31 Aug, 2020 13:15

Hi, everyone! Just joined so I could get help with this. Over the weekend I was adding pH Up to raise our pool's pH level; I added some, and the pH level rose a bit, but still needed to come up a ways, so I added more pH Up, a fairly big amount, and right away the pool clouded up. It's been a couple of days now and the pool clarity hasn't really improved. I read in a few places that "it takes time" for the cloudiness to go away in this type of situation, but no one said exactly how much time. Anyone know how long it might take? Also, is it safe to swim in the pool when it's cloudy from using pH Up?

To raise pH just aerate
Let's have your numbers (CYA is very important) use a pool store if you don't have a FAS/DPD kit
FC:
TC:
pH:
TA:
CH:
CYA:

Hi, Dennis, and thanks for responding. The pH level is fine now, but the cloudiness remains. The test kit that we have includes only pH, chlorine, and bromine; pH is around 7.3-7.4, and for the chlorine test I'm getting purple water but the scale is red—does purple mean way too much chlorine, or not nearly enough?

I've no idea, take a sample to a pool store
We just need to check your numbers to make sure there is nothing else causing your cloudy water
There is no problem swimming in cloudy water your pH seems in range

Dennis, thank you again! And good news: I checked the pool this morning, not expecting a change, but it has cleared up a lot, probably around 95% clarity.
