newbie to this site and ive got cloudy water

Hello every one,
I have had an above ground 18x24 pool with cartridge filter for 4 years and this year i have had issues with cloudy water. I hadent used the pool for 3 weeks and some green algie was on the bottom. I shocked the pool which i have never had to do and the water is like milk after 3 days. I put in some clarifier liquid form as my pool shop told me and still no better.
Please help
