amount of chlorine

I just bought a pool which holds 6000 gallons of water. I bought chlorine tablets and the seller told me to grab two cups full, place it in the floater and that was it. Is this to much chlorine or to little chlorine?

ehh how big are the cups. In the hot summer I would say to add about 3 or 4 tablets in a floater. and making sure you shock it once a week. Normally a bag of shock treats up to 10,000 gallons of water.

This is my first visit to the site and I have read a number of the pool messages but no one has mentioned the floatron which is supposed to give a crystal pool with very little use of chlorine.
I am interested in this but would like to know if anyone has experience of it.
