Another "users online" test

I di this a couple of weeks ago with very discouraging results. It is currently 1545 EDT and I would like all users online to simply post "I'm here". There are suposedly 134 people online as I type this.

the last time I got ZERO results

ZERO results again. There is simply nowhere near the traffic on this forum as their stats would have you believe.

That's pretty disappointing.

As some on here know, I have a forum that DOES have constant traffic. Troublefreepool.com is a good site to get a response to your questions. I'm not posting to promote that site as much as to simply let folks know there are places where you can get an educated response to questions.

Poolspaforum.com also seems to have some traffic but I don't go there often enough to know how much.

Yea Dura it is discouraging isn't it. What's the reason do you suppose

You might do me a favor if it's no trouble. I recall being banned from Troublefree a year or two ago for my contrary opinions. I'd like to learn how long a banning lasts and whether I might sign up again and if so if you could provide their URL to save me the trouble of looking it up again

I'd go there and ask them myself but like so many such sites in order to ask questions you first have to sign up and you can't do that if you9're on the blacklist, tending to confirm my observation about programmers

Thanks most kindly

Another "users online" test

Hi Dave and thanks for all your input in these forums.

There are several points to consider in doing such a test and I have been meaning to share them:
  1. only registered users are allowed to reply to this post. The ratio of registered users to guests is usually about 5% so 134 users is perhaps 8 or 10 registered users online.
  2. some bots are counted as visitors.
  3. the request for posts on the forum entry page will be seen by all visitors if and when they enter the site through the home page, but will not be seen by currently online visitors unless they navigate to the main page. Over 90% of our visitors do not enter through the home page.
  4. visitors tend to be blind to forum rules and announcements, so a popup window or big announcement block asking for participation would get more attention.

I know there are a lot of silent visitors who come to browse without ever joining or posting. I frequent several forums as an anonymous reader and enjoy being free of the commitment of registering. I sometimes end up registering when I come across a burning issue that I really want to express some knowledge or opinion about.
