Rendering a concrete pool

Postby stevehaigh » Thu 05 May, 2011 23:05

hi, i'm building an in-ground concrete pool and will render it.

in the past i have simply rendered the concrete floor and walls and put tiles on top, but this time i plan to finish with sand wash (fine black and white sand) embedded in the surface of the render, ie. no tile.

clearly, it is very important the render not crack, ever. i was wondering about using a layer or fine mesh steel wire inside the render to give it extra strength and resistance to cracking. the wire i'm thinking of using is made for fencing and should be rust resistant.

what do you think about reinforcing the render with wire mesh? good idea or not?

thanks, steve

Consult an engineer. It is good to have a look at the whole project before suggesting anything here to your questions. What may likely seem to be fine may not work out if you had a consultant inspect the site in itself.

thanks but here in Thailand they just do it the way they've always done it, they don't think outside the box much

i'm sure the render will stick to the walls without the wire mesh but it seems to me that a little extra support for it would be a good thing, just looking for any potential downside risk i may not have thought of
