New pool owner - how to measure pool size (pic Incl.)?

Postby kingamoon » Mon 18 Jul, 2011 01:57

This is the first time I've owned a pool so I'm super newbie :)

My pool is identical to the pool shown in this picture :

How can I measure the size of the pool since it's not fully rectangular?

Geometry, my dear Watson.
You measure the rectangle, add sections of the large circles (find a radius of the cirle) and deduct the sections of the small circles. That volume you multiply by the depth and you get volume in cubic feet.
Those you convert to gallons.

To fill in the gaps in the last reply, since you're a newbie, multiplying the length x width of the rectangle; add to that the area of the circle created by the 2 ends ( radius x 3.14 x 2) will give you the surface area. multiply that number by the average depth (deep end plus shallow end divided by 2) then multiply that number by 7.5. That's your total volume.
Example: LxW+Rx3.14x2xADx7.5= V
20x40+37.68= 837.68 surface area.
deep end=9ft x shallow end=3ft = 12/2= 6ft AD
837.68x6x7.5=37,695 gallons.
