Pump leak- WHisperflo 1HP

Postby dmc123 » Mon 25 Jul, 2011 08:56

Yesterday I noticed a small amount of water coming out of the bottom of the pump. It appears to be coming from where the motor and the pump join.
Its otherwise normal

What do I do?

Pentair Whisperflo -4 1HP

thanks

No that is not normal and usually indicates a bad seal. But they are pretty easy to replace.

It shouldn't be a problem as long as the water isn't making back into to the motor.

Most any pool store online or brick and morter should have the kit. The seal kit number is listed in the pump manual.

Those are two different styles of pump gasket depending on the age of the pump, before or after 6-94.

Thanks a millon for taking the time.

I have the WFE-4 from 2008. Does the seal kit link below have everything I will need?

Yes, it should have everything you need but the normal Pentair Go-Kit also includes a pump lid gasket which I don't think the ebay version has it. But if you don't need it, it shouldn't matter.

It is also a good idea to lube the o-rings with pool lube but not the seal. The seal must be dry and clean plus you need to make sure you install it in the correct direction or you can damage it.

Pump leak- WHisperflo 1HP

When replacing pool pump motors, it's always a good ideal to replace all the gaskets, o-rings and seals. For the Pentair WhisperFlo, you are going to want to use Go-Kit 32, which will include a new shaft seal, lid o-ring, diffuser o-ring and the housing gasket. Normal wear and tear break these o-rings down over time which is why it is always recommended to replace them while changing out the old motor.

I cannot see the listing from the link you provided as it seems to be expired, however, the Go-Kit 32 for the WhisperFlo Pump can be found here: Pentair WhisperFlo Go-Kit 32

Can all the gaskets from the kit be replaced with the units plumbing in place or do I need to remove the unit from the system?

No, you do not need to remove any plumbing. The kits come with a lid o-ring, diffuser gasket/o-ring, seal plate gasket, shaft seal, and o-ring lubricant. All these are accessible when you remove the pool pump motor and mounting plate.
