DE in pool water

Postby schan1w » Mon 19 Sep, 2011 18:21

Hi,

Whenever I backwash my DE filter, spent DE ends up in the pool. I backwash for 5-10 minutes, then rise for 5 minutes, and then return to the filter setting and recharge. I noticed some very small cracks in the DE grids last time when I opened and cleaned the filter. Could this be the cause? Or is it my plumbing or separate tank?

Which of these statement is correct regarding your pool problem:

1) When I backwash, DE flows back into the pool

2) When I recharge my pool filter with DE, white powder flows back into the pool

Then it is highly likely one of the filter grids is torn. The next time you take the filter grid assembly apart, inspect each individual grid, check the corners or stitch seams for tears. Occasionally there will be a rip in the middle of the grid, allowing DE to flow through back into the pool. That will be your culprit.
