Ok, so after being neglected heavily while we were off getting married my pool (outdoor, below ground, 11,000 gallon, sand filter) is green.
As the weather here has turned I want to close it. It is worth going through the pain of getting it back to a state where the water is clean only to then through in some winterize/algae stuff and close it?
I'm thinking about just closing it now (draining filter, reducing level, winter cover etc) while it is still green. Is this a bad idea?

I'm going through the exact same scenario (got married, in-ground 11k gallon in-ground sand filter green). You get anywhere yet?

nope. time was too short. i just threw a load of winterize algae stuff in and put the winter cover on then drained it below the skimmer and drained the pump etc. will let you know how bad it is next spring i guess!

woah. I think I am going the same route so hopefully it works out for the best! Good luck.

well. when i took the cover off the water was clear but there was algae on the bottom. after netting some leaves and getting the pump going it is fully green!
and so the annual wrestle begins!
