Filter pump not working with 10 foot pool from argos

Hi there, we have a 10 foot pool which we bought from argos. Its the 10 foot neighbourhood swim centre. We bought a filter pump for it. It's 330 Gallon Bestway flowclear which is obviously for the bestway pool with the holes that are made for this pump. Now with my pool obviously i have to put the pipes over the top of the pool so the water would have to flow up hill from pool into pump whereas with bestway pool the water simply flows out the holes. The place where i bought it from insists it should still work but i could not get the water to flow through the hoses. Do you have any suggestions ?
