A&S Solar Recirculating System

We bought a house and have an A&S pool with a "solar re-circulation system". I'm embarrassed to say I have no idea what that means, exactly. I know that it has to do with moving the cold water from the bottom of the pool and the warmer water down. But, what is actually happening if I turn the valve so that solar re-circulation is open. Where is the water going back into the pool and where is it drawing the water? I'm sure this is something simple, but I'm confused!!

Just to clarify, I don't mean the filter valve that says "recirculate" -- I have a separate valve near the spa valve that is tagged "solar recirculation"

Sounds similar to mine. The skimmer pulls water from the top which would be the warmest water in the pool. The solar recirculation directs the water to one or more jets located at the bottom. This helps to more evenly distribute the warm water.
