Need to understand TA vs pH!

Yes it is similar except that if you use borax (as with 20 Mule Team Borax) the pH rises so you need to use acid to compensate. Basically adding acid and borax is the same as using boric acid (except with acid and borax the combination adds sodium chloride salt as well). When you want to raise the borates level, using boric acid is easier since it's closer to pH neutral -- only slightly acidic.
