Extension cord gauge - 14 or 12 better for pump - need ASAP

Postby shepherdess » Thu 06 Jul, 2006 11:05

I had seen prior posts on here re: using 14/3 gauge extension cord for pumps, however, when I went to Home Depot, they advised buying 12/3? I picked up the 12/3, but need to know if this is OK or should I return for the 14/3? Responses ASAP would be appreciated.

the 12 and 14 represent the size of the wire, the smalled the number the bigger the wire, I would recommend 12 because of the use of the cord. I would also recommend and outdoor heavy duty cord. We hard wire ours in with conduit.
