I am in Queensland, Australia and our marbelite surfaced pool is 25 years old.
Our pool is dark brown and the bottom of the pool is pitted so I guess that means the marbelite is coming off.
I understand when the pool was built the marbelite had asbestos in it.
I was wondering if there is a problem with the asbestos getting into the water with kids swimming in the pool, as they go under water a lot of the time.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Asbestos in Marbelite
Hello, I'm a tech in the USA and have encountered this scenario with pools built 17years and older.
As long as the pool is filled with water, human health will be ok. Asbestos is dangerous when it becomes airborne and inhaled, depending on concentration of dust and time period exposure. Since this is a swimming pool situation, a majority of the loose fibers become trapped in the filter during normal pump schedules.
If the pool is drained and surface repair with power tools that whip up the dust is occurring, only then is there a concern to human health.
Hope this helps

Asbestos in Marbelite
Sorry I did not reply earlier and your advice is much appreciated.
Looks like if I keep up good filtering through the swimming season there will not be a problem.
Your advice has taken the worry away as I did not really know much about it.
Thanks again.
