ESC16 controller

Postby Dennis » Mon 28 Dec, 2015 08:51

Hi All. I am new to your forum. I am situated in sunny Cape Town. I have years of experience in maintaining both chlorine and salt pools. I recently bought a new house with a chlorine pool. There is a brand new ESC16 Chloromatic cell installed but no controller/power supply. Does anybody know these cells? What voltage and current do they require? I am in the electrical/electronic industry and could easily put one together for myself. The terminals are not marked so which one is positive? Also, what is the third terminal for?
Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Dennis and welcome to the forums

The manufacturer's web site has only the one user manual.

Here is an older model's service manual which has some more technical information, including current and voltages.

Salt cells have no polarity - the polarity is switched periodically to prevent scale buildup.

The 3rd connector is usually ground/ earth though I am not familiar with the Davey cells so please confirm this.

Hi Larry
Many thanks for the help and the prompt response :-)
I have the User Manual, thank you, but I can't open or download the old service manual, and I would really like to look at it. Any ideas?

Hi Dennis

You should be able to open the manual by clicking on it and then reading it with Acrobat or any other pdf reader. The link works for me.
This is the raw link- http://www.activepoolsupply.com/Manuals ... 514638.pdf

Thanks Dennis

It will be great to know how you get along.

I remember delving into the theory of electric voltages, currents, frequencies and waveforms as explained in the various SWG patents and the whole system seemed very sensitive to the tiniest variable.

Good luck with the project.

Hi Larry
A bit of feedback: my home made controller, the simplest in the world, works 100%. I haven't needed to add any chlorine since the day it was switched on, and we have had a very hot summer. Thanks again for the help.
