I'm a new pool owner. Just put it in this summer. The pool builder told us to put the shock thru the skimmer and run it thru the system. Friends tell me not to do this. Is there a new chemical that won't damage my system if I run it thru the filter system.

What we do is mix the shock with a 5 gallon bucket of water and spread it in the pool after we mix it up in the bucket, that way you have no chance of getting granules on the plaster and making a stain, just be sure not to spillit on yourself or the deck.
