DE in pool

When my new DE filter was installed, the installer hooked it up backwards the first time. Clouds of DE got into the pool. Ever since then I get algae on the pool walls even though all the chemicals are adjusted. I've swept and swept, but it doesn't help. I''ve been told the only thing I can do now is drain the pool. Is there any other option?
