Salt water intrusion into pool water

I am researching a pool claim noted by the owner and the pool company that ocean salt spray intrusion in the water has penetrated the plaster finish and cannot keep algae from growing unless you remove and remarsite pool? Is this for real?

It's news to me. I very much doubt this could be true.

If it were, millions of people wouldn't be using salt-based chlorine generators, which entails dumping bagloads of salt into the pool.
