Pool over full and overflow drain full

Hello I am a new pool owner. We own an inground pool with liner. Recent rains have filled my pool so it is above the recommended level by about two inches is this bad should I drain the excess. Also we have an overflow drain that our pool person said it was so water wouldn't get behind our liner. We it is full and when we try to empty it fills back up. Again is this bad what does anybody recommend.

Pump the excess water out to waste.
