Pool Pump

Postby abxnightpilot » Sat 10 Mar, 2007 11:26

I noticed that my pool pump wasn't working this morning. I reset the popped circuit breaker and tried to turn it on. No luck. I took the main body of the pump off of its housing so that the impeller was exposed and made sure it was free and that I could turn it. I turned the power back on to the pump and carefully turned the impeller. Once the motor began to turn with assistance from me it ran fine. However, when it came to a complete stop it wouldn't start up again unless I manually started the rotation. How can I get the pump to start rotating on it's own? I am a DIYer but have never worked on a magnetic/electrical motor so please use layman terminology. Any suggestions? Thanks

The capacitor or start windings are gone in the motor.

This is not a DIY job.

Take the pump to a repair shop or buy a new pump.

Thank you. I found a used start capacitor at the local pool supply store and installed it. It works great. Thanks again
